Volunteer at The Haven

Volunteer at the Haven

Whatever your skills and experience, there is the perfect volunteering job for you at The Haven. Your help is invaluable to us and if you are looking to pursue a career in the charity sector, volunteering will give you a real insight into how a busy charity works and will be a valuable addition to your CV in this competitive job market.

We are always keen to hear from people who can commit to regular days or specific projects in the following areas:

  • Office administration
  • Professionals with specific skills and experience like marketing, business planning, database management, event organising
  • Cooks for our Haven kitchens
  • Event helpers
  • Collection and pin box - distribution and return
  • Hospital liaison
  • Internships

Here is a summary of the sort of volunteers we regularly need. If you think you can help, please get in touch and join our Haven Volunteers.

Volunteer in the office – general admin tasks

We often need additional support in the office with simple admin tasks. It’s not always the most exciting work but it can give you experience and insight into how a busy charity office works and can be fun working in a vibrant team. Most of all though, it offers huge help to our very busy, small team. Projects could include data-entry, collating press packs, stuffing envelopes, building lists, phoning people, mailings and a million other things! We are keen to hear from people who can make a regular commitment and also those who can help out on specific projects. Our office hours are Monday to Friday 9:30 to 5:30.

Professional Volunteers

A professional volunteer is someone who can bring specific skills, experience or knowledge to some of our more specialist or strategic projects. For example, someone with experience of business planning, marketing, journalism, finance, event organising, hospital or corporate liaison.

Volunteers at fundraising events

If demands on your time mean that a regular commitment is impractical, helping out at fundraising events is an ideal way to make a contribution. We’re always grateful to have extra people to help at our events to sell raffle tickets, act as auction spotters, serve behind the bar, greet and look after guests, offer refreshments to thirsty runners, cheer our teams on, hold collections and carry out many other important tasks that help make our fundraising events a success. Event volunteering tends to be in the evening and at weekends.

Volunteer in The Haven Kitchens

Our Haven kitchens in London and Leeds offer delicious healthy, organic, non dairy lunches for our Visitors from Monday to Thursday. The kitchens are the hub of The Haven – where Visitors can get together to chat and share their experiences. All our lunches are prepared by volunteers, so if you are a bit of a Delia and would like to help, please contact info@thehaven.org.uk

Collection Boxes
Collection and pin boxes in shops, cafe and other public places are important to The Haven. As well as raising vital funds, they help get our name out into the community. Our small fundraising teams find it difficult to find the time to collect and replace our boxes, so we need people who can help us distribute and collect them as well as count the proceeds.

Visitors – tell your story
Real Visitors’ stories can really help us promote our charity to other people with breast cancer, and also be very helpful in our fundraising, so if you have been a Visitor to The Haven and are happy to either talk about your experience to groups of people, or are happy for us to write up your story for use in a leaflet or press release, please get in touch with us.

Be an intern
If you are looking to pursue a career in the charity sector, or just looking for a change, an internship is an excellent way to learn about and contribute to the work of a charity. It will give you a real insight into how a busy charity works and will be a valuable addition to your CV in this competitive job market. We offer internships in our fundraising and communications departments where you will be given a specific project to complete along with some administration duties.

If you would like to volunteer at The Haven in either London, Hereford or Leeds, please contact your local Haven.
