The Haven

Vitacress

VitacressCo-inciding with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Vitacress Salads, one of Sainsbury’s watercress suppliers, worked with the supermarket to help raise funds for The Haven.  For one month, between  September 15 and October 15 2010, Sainsbury’s promoted the watercress in all their stores and Vitacress Salads made a donation of 5p per pack sold to The Haven, raising £20,000 for us in the process.

The promotion aimed to encourage more people to eat watercress whilst raising funds for The Haven.  It marked the culmination of a two year research project into the potential of watercress to suppress breast cancer cell development. The results of the new study were announced by the Watercress Alliance on 14th September.

“We chose to support The Haven because the charity takes a holistic approach to breast cancer care, and supports anyone affected by breast cancer with counselling, complementary therapies and nutritional advice, helping people during their recovery to improve their diet, boost their natural defences and increase their energy levels.”

On Monday 6 December, Sara Davenport the founder of The Haven, and her children’s nanny, Wendy Ricketts – the inspiration for the founding of the charity - were presented with a large cheque by Simon Conway, Commercial Manager for Vitacress Salads, at the Fulham Broadway Sainsbury’s Store.

Sara Davenport, our Founder, said: “We are thrilled with the amount raised by this joint watercress promotion between Sainsbury’s and Vitacress.  The money raised will help many more women affected by breast cancer benefit from The Haven’s unique programme of care and we are hugely grateful”.
