The Young Ones Committee

Welcome to the Young Ones Committee.  We aim to raise awareness of and funds for The Haven and the incidence of breast cancer in young people.  We were founded by Toral Shah, a Haven Visitor.

 ‘I had not expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer at such a young age as very few young people are diagnosed with breast cancer. You often feel very isolated as many other women who are affected are older and often face different issues. The Haven helped me with this isolation as they have a very welcoming Younger Women's Support group where I found many friends. In return I wanted to help The Haven so I conceived the idea of a committee which organise fundraising events that my friends and I would like to attend’

Over £7,500 raised and rising:

As a Committee, we plan fun, exciting events that our friends would like to attend.  In the past these have included a Race Night, Wine Tasting and Blood of the Dance Floor, a Halloween themed night at Mahiki hosted by the fabulous Henry Conway.

As the Committee enters its third year, we are looking for new members to help make our next event, Rock The Haven,  the fundraising party of 2012.  Planning is in the very early stages and if you would like to join a inspiring and enthusiastic group of people make the evening a huge success, please contact Toral.

For each event, the Committee source sponsorship, gift in kind donations, raffle prizes and also sell tickets to the event.  There are generally four committee meetings before each event which take place in the evening in a central London location and although we get a lot done, the meetings are certainly not boring or stuffy! Outside the meetings, members update each other via e mail and phone.
