Sally Evans
How Sally Evans raised over £2,300
Sally was 15 years old when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and first came to The Hereford Haven. Sally said, “I thought it was a brilliant place, a really great place and I really felt that I wanted to help them in some way.” When she decided to have her head shaved in aid of the The Haven, she got a mixed reaction from her family and friends.
While some were all for it, others were really against it, and so she came up with the idea of two collection buckets, one labeled "Shave It" and the other "Save it". Whichever had the most money by the end of the school term determined whether or not she got to keep her lovely long brown hair. When the big day arrived, ‘save it’ won by a miniscule 45p!
Sally had a huge amount of support from her teachers at Queen Elizabeth School in Bromyard who announced her plan on the school assembly. BBC Hereford and Worcester supported Sally with radio interviews and a Video Nation film which can be viewed on their website.
