Moira started raising money for The Hereford Haven after four of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer. To date, she has raised over £10,500 and says “You name it and I’ve tried it!” So far Moira has made and sold jams and pickles, organised the annual Storridge pancake race, opened her garden for ‘Spot the weed competitions’ and held country and western evenings. Even when she was in hospital recently having a knee operation she had a collection tin beside her bed for the doctors to put their change in!
In 2011 Moira completed a ‘village hall marathon’. She walked 1,876 times round her village hall at a rate of a quarter of a mile a week. It took her 3 months to complete the full marathon distance – plus a lap of honour!
This year after winning the Herefordshire Fundraiser of the Year (and in typical Moira style immediately donated her £250 award straight back to The Haven) she was invited to be an Olympic Torchbearer for the 2012 games.
Despite some recent knee problems, Moria continues to fundraise tirelessly. Her New Year’s resolution is to get “fit as a fiddle” for her Olympic honour. She intends to build her strength by completing another village hall marathon and this time wants to raise over £20,000 for The Haven.
