Thank You from The Haven London

Richard Bucknall and friends walked 22 miles along the beautiful Cleveland Way on the 17th March 2012 raising vital funds for The Haven. We are thrilled that Richard chose to support The Haven by taking on this difficult challenge raising an amazing £965 to date. We would like to say a massive thank you from everyone at The Haven! Your support will enable us to continue providing the very best care for our Visitors in 2012.

On the 10th March 2012 Louise McEwen organised a charity evening in aid of The Haven. With the support of her daughter in law (also Louise McEwen) the event went very well and raised an incredible £2,000 for The Haven. We are incredibly grateful for this wonderful donation which will provide a full programme of specialist breast cancer care for two Haven Visitors. We are looking forward to thanking Mrs McEwen in person next month when she comes to see for herself how her donation will help. 

Camilla Campbell is a keen supporter of The Haven’s work and has promoted our cause at her yoga centre in Cobham since she opened Camilla Campbell Yoga last year. On the 4th March 2012 Camilla showed her continued support for The Haven by asking for sponsorship to complete 108 sun salutations. Through this incredible challenge Camilla and her generous supporters raised £445 for The Haven. Thank you Camilla! 

On the 20th January 2012 Zumba Instructor Julie Ritchie organised her own Zumbathon in Hailsham. Julie invited her members to Zumba with her and raise vital funds for The Haven. Julie and her group raised a fantastic £430 from their event. We would like to thank Julie and all those who attended her Zumbathon your donation will enable us to help many more women living with breast cancer in 2012.

 

The Kensington and Chelsea Women’s Club has been a wonderful support since 2010 when The Haven was elected their charity of choice. To date members and their families have raised an incredible £10,776.55 through a variety of activities. We are so thankful for the support of everyone at the KCWC!

Sainsbury’s Fulham Broadway have been a truly incredible supporter of The Haven since 2009 to date they have raised £3,642 for The Haven including their latest donation of £400 raised through Fulham in the Pink in October. Our community partnership has sadly come to an end but the wonderful team at Sainsbury’s continue to help where they can and are always a friendly face in the Fulham Broadway! We cannot thank them enough for everything they have done for The Haven. 

The fantastic people at Hodge Jones and Allen organised a quiz night for The Haven in December as part of our National Quiz campaign. Andrew Ewbank and his team created a fab evening with a great buzz! The teams were intent on winning but all in good humour and The Haven fundraising team had a great night even if we did come second from last! The evening raised a huge £1,111.30 for The Haven and we couldn’t be more grateful!

Cara Field organised a glittering party and auction for The Haven on the 12th November 2011. Guests included Chelsea FC Legends Ron Harris, John Collins, John Dempsey, Mr Peter Bonetti and Charlie Cook. They kindly signed shirts, had photos taken and took part in a questions and answer session. The night was a huge success and we were delighted to receive a donation for £3,031 from Cara. Thank you!

The fabulous Treblemakers a London women’s a cappella singing group have been a great support to The Haven this year. The ladies kindly sang beautiful Christmas carols through December at the Fulham Broadway Centre and London’s Trafalgar Square; they delighted the crowds with their festive songs and raised a fantastic £494 for The Haven.

On the 6th November 2011, Jose Marcelino took part in the ING New York Marathon. We would like to thank Jose who has described the marathon as amazing but the challenge of his life. Despite missing his plane due to an airport mix up Jose wasn’t deterred, he was so determined to run in this spectacular race that he booked himself straight onto another flight and made it in time for the race. We are so grateful to Jose for not giving up and raising a fantastic £4,402.40 for The Haven.

On Friday 31st October 2011 the wonderful people at Radio Jackie kindly gave up their Halloween celebrations to host a brilliant evening of food and dance at the Wharf Restaurant, Teddington, in aid of The Haven. The evening raised £5,700 for The Haven and will make a big difference here at The Haven. A big thank you to the Radio Jackie presenters and their listeners.

On the 29th October 2011 Jessica Jones had her hair cut for the first time since the end of her chemotherapy treatment two years ago. To celebrate Jessica asked friends and family to support The Haven and make a donation towards her haircut. Jessica’s raised a wonderful £470 and her new ‘do’ looks fabulous! Thank you Jessica!

Alex Kumin and Team Harambee reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on Monday 17th October 2011. Team Harambee raised vital funds for causes close to their hearts including The Haven as voted for by Alex. This incredible group of people raised £22,891 for their chosen charities of which The Haven was delighted to receive £4,943.30. Thank you Team Harambee!

The wonderful Gill Exton opened her house to eager shoppers for the 9th year in a row. Gill’s beautiful cards and other lovely gifts were on sale over two days (4th/5th October) with proceeds coming to The Haven. Gill’s sale raised £1,637 for The Haven, thank you Gill! 

The fabulous Pink Buddies held their Pink Buddies Autumn Lunch on Friday 30th September 2011 at the Oxo Tower. The lunch was held in the Brassiere overlooking the Thames on a gorgeous sunny day. Thank you to the committee for raising an incredible £5,744.50 for The Haven.

On Friday 2nd September 2011 the antique dealers put on their football boots and took on the auctioneers in the annual Antique Dealers Vs Auctioneers charity football match held in Roehampton. The day was a great success with the Antique Dealers winning the match and taking the Lennox Cato trophy from last year’s winners the Auctioneers. Thank you to the committee, sponsors, players and spectators for raising an incredible £10,000 for The Haven. 

Last Sunday we had seven runners taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon raising important funds for The Haven. Enduring the blustery autumnal conditions they all made it to the finishing line and have so far raised an impressive £3,412. Warm thanks go to, Sarah Ruston, Victoria Carrington, Anne Morris, Anna Davies, Mary Parker, Helen Smale, Joseph  Pitcher.

In July 2011, Lorna Mansell held a 50s inspired Retro Tea Party which had a Lyon’s corner house theme. Lorna raised a fantastic £668.66 for The Haven. The Retro tea party was a huge success and a lovely outing with tasty treats. We would like to thank Lorna for the time and effort she put into organising the tea party and we are delighted that her guests thoroughly enjoyed being transported back to the 50s.

A huge thank you is extended to Callie Carling and her sister Nicky. Nicky cut her long locks and is now rocking a beautiful elfin crop. This is a very inspirational story as Nicky cut her hair in support of her sister Callie who is going through treatment for breast cancer. We would like to thank both Nicky and Callie for their efforts and applaud their bravery, especially during this very difficult time.

On the 31st of July 2011, Catharine Brindley took part in the Iron Man Challenge. We would like to thank Catherine who has described the gruelling and intense 12 hours, 22 minutes and 52 seconds as amazing, but, the challenge of her life. Catharine also managed to complete the challenge an hour and a half faster than what she had expected! This is definitely one of the most intense challenges Britain has to offer so we are grateful to Catharine for choosing The Haven as one of her charities. So far Catharine has managed to raise an amazing £445.
