The Haven

Lucie Arrowsmith

'A few years ago my mother Helen was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a huge shock to me and my family as (ignorantly) I never thought something like that could happen to my mum.

Shortly after being diagnosed she was introduced to The Haven in Fulham, where she met people who were going through the same thing & had great support from the staff there.

She had wonderful relaxing treatments and attended classes to help build her confidence with her new appearance (hair loss) all thanks to The Haven.

It seemed The Haven was a lifeline for her, somewhere to go to let go of all the stress and to recover after chemo and radiotherapy.

She is truly grateful, as am I, for this centre that provides such great encouragement to those diagnosed with breast cancer – for this reason I decided I would like to raise money for the charity. My sister Nicky and I signed up for the British Military Fitness 5k run in Redhill.

It was a fun day with some struggles, particularly running through muddy water that came up to my waist, but all in all a sense of achievement and satisfaction that we took part.

I am so grateful that I was able to take part in this challenge to raise money for The Haven.'
