Indian Head Massage
What is Indian Head Massage?
Indian Head Massage involves manipulation of the soft tissues of the upper back, shoulders, neck and scalp, all areas that are vulnerable to stress. The massage has been adapted over thousands of years from ancient Indian Ayurvedic techniques.
How can Indian Head Massage help?
Indian Head Massage can improve circulation and lymphatic drainage to the shoulders, head, neck, scalp and face. It can loosen tight scalp muscles and tendons, relieves headaches, neck and shoulder stiffness and may help reduce insomnia, promote clearer thinking and aid concentration. Overall it induces a sense of deep relaxation.
What happens in a session?
An Indian Head Massage last 20-30 minutes. You remain clothed and it is done seated. No oils are used. The massage technique includes upper back, arms, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. The massage employs gentle stroking, stimulating and pressure movements.
When can Indian Head Massage be given?
Because of the stimulating nature of the treatment it is not recommended during chemotherapy when hair is falling out. It can be very beneficial when hair is starting to re-grow as it stimulates the scalp and hair follicles. It can also be helpful after surgery to promote shoulder mobility and joint movement.
Number and length of appointments
An Indian Head Massage lasts for half an hour. At least 3 appointments are recommended.
